Operating Systems
Operating System controls almost all functions of a computer. All of the modern computers rely on an OS to provide the interface for interactions with the user which makes operating systems a necessity for a computer. Even though many operating systems work differintly its four main purposes are to control hardware access, manage files and folders, provide a user interface, and manage applications.
Currently the most widely used operating systems are:
Microsoft Windows: Windows is one of the most popular operating systems today. It has long history of making high quality OS that can be used by any person. Windows 7 is considered to be one of the best for now.
There are many other version of Windows OS that are used for different activities and are suitable for various personal computers.

Linux: Linus Torvalds designed Linux in 1991 as an open-source OS that allow the source code to be distributed and changed by anyone as a free download or by developers at a much lower cost than other operating systems. Not many people want to break into a Linux system because of the smaller number of users which effectively makes the Linux OS much safer than Windows.
There are several Linux operating systems such as Ubuntu and Mint. |
Apple Mac OS: Apple computers are Intel-based PCs and use an operating system called Mac OS. Mac OS is designed to be a user-friendly GUI operating system.
